Company History
PWR, formerly Plant-Wide Research, was founded
by William (Bill) McSpadden in 1988, as an industrial sector spin-off
from International Data Corporation (IDC). Although several analyst
organizations such as Gartner, Dataquest, and IDC existed at the
time, covering broad-ranging technology infrastructure trends
such as: Hardware Platforms, Networking Architectures, Data Management
Applications and Operating System Environments, a gap existed
in the availability of adequate coverage of mission critical industrial
business application solutions and practices for manufacturers
and distributors. By 1990, PWR revenue reached $1 Million US,
and in 1991 PWR introduced the first weekly market analysis and
industrial sector weekly news report, called the Plant-Wide Late
Breaking News report. This industry classic weekly news and market
analysis report gained industry-wide recognition and readership
of over 200,000 regular readers after the first year in print.
PWR launched its industry flagship Annual Industry Review and
Forecast report in 1992 and have since published 14 annual editions
of the report. The Annual Review and Forecast was the first of
its kind in the industrial sector, providing critical vendor and
vertical market trends and growth projections which led to PWR’s
1998 prediction of the technology industry collapse at the end
of Y2K. The Annual Review and Forecast also became the industry
baseline for many well known industry publications seeking to
publish vendor revenue and growth trends and became the basis
for the annual Manufacturing Systems (Manufacturing Business Technology)
Top 100 Software Company listing.
In 1993, PWR introduced its Business to Business
(B2B) Web Site called the "Intell Mall" based on a retail
mall metaphor with 17 "stores". The Intell Mall reached
over 100,000 industry professional visitors in 1996 and each year
after. 2001 marked another major milestone, our entry into the
management and business consulting industry. Today, the company
is moving more heavily into business consulting, strategy, and
program execution in response to the rapidly maturing technology
market and our increasingly competitive global economy.
